2012

I have sculpted a slice of dream out of waste wood, fashioned after the ‘world of dreams’ in embroidery work, as depicted in classical Chinese novels. It’s like a drift of smoke or a rosy cloud, as well as the Chinese propitious cloud. As I carry the dream with me while I wander off to a foreign land, it quietly leaps from my head for the skies at different occasions. Its appearance is an instant contrast between ideal and reality; a metaphor but also an expression, a gesture that is private yet at the same time open as well. Standing before Britain’s Tate Modern Museum, I dream of a dream longing for freedom. In front of the gigantic artwork housed in the Grand Palais of Paris, I dream of being humble and content with who I am. At different places, the same dream is fueled by different scenarios. As such, the dreamer’s dream is not just about personal desires, but also the dream-watcher’s self-reflection and a projection of desire. The slice of dream shall hover above us, and walk us to the end of the world.
