Touching Art: Louvre's Sculptures in Movement

玲芝岫

Exquisite Cloud

木、國畫顏料

 Wood and Chinese Ink

Size: 31cm(L) X 14cm (W) X 13cm (H)

2010

“玲芝岫” 的作品材料為被乏棄置的紅酒木箱和國畫顏料。形制參照古代文人賞石,精巧玲瓏,可堪把玩。希望觀眾在欣賞作品之餘,同時領略古代文人的生活逸趣。

Exquisite Cloud is created using a discarded wooden red wine case and Chinese ink. It is inspired by the rocks collected and appreciated by the literati in ancient times which were delicate, compact and playable, in hope of the audience’s appreciation and understanding of ancient literati’s pleasurable life style.

Dimension of Touching

Dimension of Touching is conceived as a response to “Touching Art: Louvre’s Sculptures in Movement” exhibition. Offering a rare chance to appreciate the sculptures from the canon, this project also serves as a valuable platform for our local young artists to create works by using everyday objects in an form of expression.

Lau Hok Shing, Hanison’s Exquisite cloud suggests a reference to the pleasurable life style of the literati culture through  discarded wooden red wine case and Chinese ink. Eastman Cheng is proposing a diverse tactile experience with her work, Beautiful things (Inspired by Venus) which is translated into different things such as delicious food, good body, nice music and so on, For Ivy Ma, everyday objects like bobby pins and rattan open up a whole new possibility of the world around us, and her work, River explores the memories into the realm of Nature. Imagination runs wild with Wong Tin Yan’s Goldfish lamp where his childhood-play searches for the relationship of sculpture and home. By using materials like sponge and wire, Lai Nga Yu, Alice’s My Little giant makes a conscious contrast between the classic sculptures which are usually made of marble and bronze, and the modern ones. Lastly, Li Tin Lun, Otto’s “Venus de Milo” recontructs the contour and transforms Venus into something new.

This exhibition invites several local young artists to present works in a way very different form that of Louvre. The artists make use of everyday objects as the source of creation, resulting in some very interesting works. Please close your eyes as you touch and feel the works, and re-open them as you read the textual information.
