 Tranquility - Stationary

One would feel about the serenity from the hustle and bustle of city life by being here quietly. Everyday the breeze carries along the smell of fruit from the vineyard to the seashore where tides ebb and flow. It is once in a lifetime to be in such a paradise.

Being away from a busy place, the mind is calmed and the body is relaxed. By being utmost innocent, my perception becomes as delicate as can be. I turn objects in daily life into pieces of artwork as a mean to express my gratitude towards this place and to my inner peace.

Tranquility - Moving

This place was originally an island where the islanders earned a living by fishing and growing crops. After the construction of the bridge, it became the sole connection with the outside world. In order to supply electricity to the island, people built High Voltage Transmission Towers around the island and the life of the islanders changed then. Based on these elements and the shape of the island, I created a mobile island made up of cardboard box and carried it around the island. I chatted with the islanders and gave them some potted landscapes made from grape branches and oyster shells as a present.

Inside the exhibition space, the potted landscapes were placed on the towers crafted with disposable chopsticks, the towers were setting around the island randomly. In order to re-create the natural and artificial appearances of the island. This artwork surveys the relationship between people and nature as well as the effects of urbanization towards people’s life.

Although there was a grim history about the islands, the islanders, however, are optimistic about life and their future.
